Hydraulic Engineering Group Brescia

On Thursday 10th of May, Manerba hosted the 2nd edition of the workshop Garden (Promoting research on Lake Garda by sharing scientific experiences developed in other lakes), organized by Università di Brescia and Università Cattolica. Scientists of different disciplines (physical limnology, atmospheric physics, ecology, remote sensing), professionals, and public officers, met to share the experiences developed in the lakes of the alpine and pre-alpine area, as well as to discuss about future directions of the scientific research on Lake Garda. Prof. Steven Chapra from Tuft University, Boston, USA, is  visiting Professor at DICATAM, guest of the hydraulics group. He will deliver a set of seminars on ecological modeling of lakes within the Environmental Hydraulics course and will collaborate on the research activities regarding the sediments-water interaction in Lake Iseo.

31 May 2017: Presentation of the school project ISEO at the high school Istituto Antonietti. All the classes that next year  will be involved in the dissemination activities within the ISEO project funded by Fondazione Cariplo were present and had the unique occasion to meet one worldwide expert of lake modeling, Prof. Steven Chapra from Tuft Unversity, Boston, talking about his experience on the restoration of the Great Lakes.

Prof. Bernard Laval from University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, will be visiting Professor at DICATAM, guest of the hydraulics group. He will deliver a set of seminars on physical limnology and will collaborate on the research activities regarding the hydrodynamic of deep lakes.

Marco Pilotti has been appointed to serve as an Associate Editor for the American Society of Civil Engineers Journal of Environmental Engineering. This is a great honour in the year when this important Journal is completing out its 60th year of operation, which is being celebrated with a Special Anniversary Issue.

Christo’s floating pier has been completed 10 minutes ago. This is going to be an art masterpiece but it will be beneficial to Lake Iseo only if people in Italy and abroad will understand that this lake needs greater attention, now and in the future ! It is of paramount importance to join effort to find out a way to revert this lake to oligotrophy before it is too late.

CARIPLO ha riconosciuto l’eccellenza della nostra ricerca accordando, al termine di un processo di selezione internazionale con tasso di successo del 15%, un finanziamento che ci consentirà per i prossimi tre anni, alla testa di un gruppo di partner (UniParma, CNR IREA, Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries), di monitorare i flussi di Fosforo nel Lago di Iseo.

Si conferma la tendenza meromittica del Lago d’Iseo. Anche quest’anno le nostre misure di ossigeno disciolto confermano la mancata circolazione della parte fonda del lago, in condizioni sostanzialmente anossiche. Già a 160 m di profondità il contenuto di ossigeno è circa 0.2 mg/l. Tutto ciò nella totale indifferenza…
